Seeds of the Kingdom

The Lord is Our Protector

by Tanya Person

Therefore, Lord, we know You will protect the oppressed, preserving them forever from this lying generation, even though the wicked strut about, and evil is praised throughout the land.
Psalm 12:7-8, NLT

In these days, it seems that evil is praised, and if you stand for righteousness you are ridiculed for your beliefs. Freedom of speech is expected, unless your speech is calling for living according to God`s laws. As our verse today states, ‘the wicked strut about’. The media often praise those who break through the boundaries of what used to be morally acceptable in the world. People are lying and say that sin has no effect on people. It can seem quite hopeless if our focus is on the situation, and as we see Christians facing more oppression and persecution in various parts of the world.

What can we do? How can we survive? We need to keep our eyes on Jesus, our deliverer, and know that the Lord will protect and preserve us as we follow Him. The scripture promises that He preserves the oppressed forever. Even if the world kills our earthly body, we have the hope, the confident assurance, that God will preserve us!

Colossians 4:5 says, ‘Be wise in the way you act toward those who are outside the Christian faith. Make the most of your opportunities’. We know from James that if we lack wisdom we should ask God who gives it generously. We can ask God for wisdom how to answer those who are deceived and believing the lies, and make the most of the opportunities He gives us to share our faith.

Today, don`t look to what is going on around you in fear, rather look to Jesus and ask Him what you are to do today. Follow His leading with confidence that He will protect and preserve you.

Prayer: Lord, please forgive me for the times when I have looked at all the evil in the world and been full of despair. Thank You that You have a plan and a purpose and that none of this surprises You. Please help me to keep my eyes focused on You and following You in obedience. Thank You for Your promise to preserve the oppressed. I choose today to trust You. Amen.
