Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11
Testimony
Before the weekend I was completely unable to accept a part of the Lordship prayer where we acknowledge the Lord's control over "the manner and timing of my death". I needed or wanted an "out", to be able to control this for myself..... Read More...

The Earth is Wearing Out.

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail.
Isaiah 51:6, NIV

Today’s verse is not immediately very encouraging but, in the context of so much political discussion, regarding the future of our planet, the Bible has a very clear message: the earth is wearing out.

We should of course take much better care of this precious world that God has created but, make no mistake, it is corrupted by the sin of humankind and it will come to an end. No amount of eco-politics will save the world from this inevitable conclusion.

We can perhaps, in the meantime, make this planet more pleasant to live on by adopting less selfish lifestyles, but we are not masters of the universe. To act as if we were, simply plays into the hands of the god of this world, who would no doubt like us to ignore the certain end of this world and his own final destruction.

But now for the good news: everything that is right with God from this world will continue with Him into eternity, into a precious God-centred realm free from all corruption, a new heaven and a new earth. Jesus has provided the way for this realm of righteousness to be entered by every human being willing to recognise Him as the true Saviour of the world. What an amazing offer and what a wonderful reassurance.

Prayer: Father God, You are not troubled by the inevitable end of this world, whenever You have ordained for that to be. Keep us mindful of our need to utterly depend on You for the future, even while we do our best to care for all Your precious creation. Amen.
