Simply Because You’re Special!

by Bernard Kariuki

Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.
Deuteronomy 31:8, NLT

Do you believe that, even if you were the only one in the world, God would had still send His Son to die for you? Sometimes we might wrestle with this question, but definitely, “Yes!” He still would have sent His only Son just for one person, you. For you’re His own. I believe God doesn’t see us as a crowd, but as individuals, and that’s why He’s created everyone with a unique identity.

We know, from the Scriptures, God made a way through the Red Sea for the children of Israel. He also dried up the river Jordan for them to pass through. You might think it was worth it because of the sheer number of people. As I was reading the Scriptures, it caught my attention that, the same river Jordan that He dried up for the Israelites, He also dried up for Elijah and Elisha to go through. You might think, “Well, Elijah was a big prophet, and God was using him”. But, as I continued reading, I saw that the same river Jordan He dried up for the children of Israel, He also dried up for just one person to pass through. He did it for Elisha, who by then wasn’t even a significant prophet, but was just Elijah’s understudy. But our God won’t keep you on hold just because you’re the only one.

Zacchaeus, who knew he didn’t even stand a chance of seeing Jesus, let alone being seen by Him, climbed a sycamore-fig tree, just to have a glimpse of Jesus. Amidst the crowd, Jesus spotted Him. He didn’t know Jesus, yet Jesus knew him by name, and had a plan to be a guest in his house. Jesus didn’t go to his house to minister to a crowd, as when he used Simon’s boat, but He went there to have one-to-one fellowship with Zacchaeus. We don’t have to fight for attention, nor do we have to climb trees. He knows us intimately (Psalm 139). That’s why He personally goes before you, to make sure you’ll be safe. He never leaves you.

So, believe! Jesus can change the whole government system just for you. For in His eyes, you’re not just a somebody. You’re His very dear child, made in His image. You’re special to Him, and you’re His treasured special possession. Though Jesus had crowds following Him, it didn’t stop Him giving His whole attention to a woman with an issue of blood. Jesus called her ‘daughter’. I believe this assured her that she was entitled to what Jesus had to offer, simply because she was His daughter.

Jesus will never be too busy for you. While others might despise or look down on you, because of the way you are, Jesus will never. People shouted and tried to silence Bartimaeus. Certainly, they didn’t regard him worthy of Jesus’ attention or time. But Jesus stopped just for Him and addressed His issue. Then Jesus continued on His way.
Yes! God can stop the sun just for you. He can divide the Red Sea and make a way, just for you to pass through. He won’t say it’s a waste of energy doing a miracle because you’re the only one. He’s not in a performance business. He’ll leave the ninety-nine to reach out to you, for He knows the value He’s put in you. He knows your worth, and that’s why He’s imprinted your name on the palm of His hand. You’re His special possession.

The Lord will orchestrate anything around you, either big or small, in your favour. He’ll make rough places smooth, shatter doors of bronze and cut through iron bars, just for you. He’ll lift the valleys up, make every mountain and hill low, and the crooked ways straight, just for you to pass through.

Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for Your Word tells me, that You’ve cared for me since I was born. As Isaiah 43:1 says, ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine’. I now declare that, I’ll not be afraid in deep waters nor through rivers of difficulty, for I won’t drown. You are with me. No fire of oppression will burn me, and no flame consume me. Thank You, Lord, as You open a way for me through the waters, and as You make a dry path for me through the sea. Thank You that You love me as if I’m the only person in the world. In Jesus’ name I pray and believe, Amen.
