Reward For Your Labour
by Sue Dare
Many years ago I heard a prophetic word over a pastor’s life that continues to challenge me even now. The pastor was told that the Christian life was more like a marathon than a ‘sprint around the block’ so much perseverance would be needed. This man had become a Christian in his forties and was very zealous for the Lord. He was more than willing and available to be God’s agent of change in a hurting world, and this was commendable, but the journey would not always be easy, and much grit and determination would be needed.
Over the years I have watched the reality of this prophetic word unfold in his life. He’s borne much fruit for the Kingdom of God, and like King Asa in today’s Scripture, his perseverance has been rewarded. Also, like Asa, this pastor ‘took courage’ from the prophetic utterance and continues to run the marathon set before him (2 Chronicles 15:8).
It takes faith and courage to believe that our work will be rewarded by God. We may not see the fullness of that reward in this life, but we can be assured that we’ll receive it in the next. God is no man’s debtor and promises that nothing we do in His name will ever be in vain. He’s also the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him, and assures us that an inheritance is kept for each of His children in heaven, where no thief can steal nor rust destroy. Those who remain faithful to the call of God on their life will one day be greeted with the words, ‘Well done good and faithful servant’. Pay day is coming! I repeat; pay day is coming!
God’s exhortation to each of us to today is ‘be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded’.
Prayer: Father God, thank You that You’re no man or woman’s debtor and that my work for you will be rewarded. Strengthen me to continue running the race before me with perseverance. Amen.
