Rainbow in the Cloud

God’s promise was for all the generations to come. God promised there would never again be a flood to destroy the earth. This covenant of grace shows God’s commitment to redeem His creation and gives a sign for all to see. Here’s a window for us to look into His heart. He doesn’t wish to destroy what He’s created. He wants to redeem, restore and sustain all that He’s made.

In Revelation 4:3 we read that there is a rainbow around the Lord’s throne in heaven. You can only see a rainbow where there’s light and 1 John 1:5 says ‘God is light’. The rainbow has the whole spectrum of colour and displays the beauty of our God. It has seven main colours and the number seven speaks of perfection, so it’s a truly wonderful sign for the whole world to see.

The rainbow should remind us to be thankful to the One who gives the rain and the sun to sustain life.

The Lord personally provides for every need of His children. In 1 Peter 4:10 we learn we are to minister the gift we’ve received as good stewards of the ‘manifold’ grace of God. One meaning of the word ‘manifold’ is ‘many coloured’. I was meditating on the grace of God being made up of many colours. I think there must be a particular kind of grace which is especially designed for each kind of trial that we go through.

God is a covenant keeping God and when He promises to help us, He doesn’t change His mind, but is utterly dependable. We can trust Him completely.
