Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Seeds of the Kingdom

One Body Many Parts

by Vivienne Hill

Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:12, NIV

We all have our own part to play. Until I found my calling, there have been many times in my church life where I just didn’t seem to fit. I was given Sunday school to teach, but it was not an area where I am gifted. Someone suggested that, because I have an outwardly welcoming attitude, I should welcome on the door. But I’m actually quite shy, so that gave me the horrors!

When I first went on an Ellel Ministries course, it was because there was so much hurt in me that I needed some serious healing. After I had completed the Modular School (today’s updated version is called Explore), God made it so plain I should apply to be a prayer minister, and at which site. I gulped a little and applied.

Later on, somebody suggested that I learn to teach at Healing Retreats. “What me?” I heard myself say. But I took a course and, although my first one was very fast, I am settling into it, and I love it. Both these are absolutely my calling right now. I know this in every part of my being.

I totally believe the scripture which says we should be able to give an account for our belief, and I have led someone to the Lord in prayer, but I’m not an evangelist. There are other prayer ministers who are marvellous evangelists and preachers, and there are preachers and evangelists who are not prayer ministers.

Why am I saying all that? Because for years and years I tried so hard to fit into moulds that were not mine. I went through dreadful times, wanting to do the work Father had for me, yet trying to be a nose when I was meant to be an ear!

Our Bible teaches us not to conform to the ways of the world, and I think maybe that this applies also to our Christian Ministry. We don’t need to do what everyone thinks we should do but, with quiet prayer and contemplation, follow the path our Father has mapped out for us. And, when we do, the blessings flow.

None of this means it will necessarily be easy, but oh, when you are doing just what Father wants, there is such peace and joy and fulfilment!

I encourage you today to seek the Lord in your ministry. Don’t ask someone else or just volunteer because they need another job done (and I’m not saying don’t work), but prayerfully ask if this is the job for you.

May you be so blessed and fulfilled in your calling that you know you are in the right place. Just remember it might only be for a season, and He might be calling you to do something else later on, so be open and listen.

Prayer: Thank You, Father, that You are my guide. Then, when I listen to you, I am safe, and can do what You call me to do. Please bless my ministry today, however small I feel it may be. Help me to know that I am doing my part in Your kingdom. Amen.
