My Home and My Resting Place
by Pam Smith
“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it and you will find rest for your soul”.
I have heard so many folk say that when they accepted Jesus as their Saviour, it felt as if they had come home. He is the ‘Way’; and our ‘Home’.
Home means different things to each person but it is usually a place where you can rest and feel secure. I have recently experienced a time of being without a home, between leaving one place and waiting to go to another. I was so grateful to know that I can be at home, even in a temporary place, because I know that I am at home in the secure presence of Jesus. No place can be more precious than this.
At the very time I was writing this seed, a song called ‘You are my home’, came on the radio, and so reassured me that my home is in the Lord, a truth for now and every day.
Whatever you are going through, however far you travel, whether it’s great changes or a journey into unknown territories, or even a sad or difficult move, because of Jesus, you can feel at home in that place. Home is in your heart because Jesus is in your heart. Even in a homesick situation where you are longing to be with loved ones, He will become your joy and resting place.
Home is where you have all your familiar ‘stuff’. It`s easy to put your confidence in these things. When they are not there for whatever reason, this is when it’s a time of trusting and relying on the Lord for your resources. He is faithful. He will bring you to your resting place and will provide for you.
"You said ‘Come to Me all you who are so weary
And you will find true rest for your souls’,
Lord let these words of life speak into my heart
Anywhere I am, I can be home.
You are my home, You’re my true home.
I am safe inside the shelter of your love.
You are my home, You’re my true home.
I am free to be a child once again
My heart is restless ‘till it rests in you.
Until I dwell in you, until I find my home in you." (Brian Doeksen)
