Let go, and Let God do it for you!
by David Silvester
As Margaret and I have been growing older our children have become concerned that we live too far away from any of them. They have repeatedly encouraged us to make a move before one of us is left on our own.
We have made it a matter of prayer, asking that the Lord would guide us into His will for us. Taking the words of Psalm 37:5, ‘Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act’, and putting them into practice has not only brought peace of heart, but we have seen God do things in an exceptional way on our behalf.
As we explored the way ahead in relation to selling our house, the local agent said it could take up to twelve months to find a buyer because of the depression in the current housing sales market. Yet within four days there was the first interested purchaser viewing our property and making an offer. In a matter of three weeks there were four couples vying for it, and the agent had to give them a specific date and time for their final offer in writing to be on his desk!
When we are prepared to commit our way to the Lord, and trust Him in relation to the everyday matters of life, we can step back and let Him act. But how often do we try to do it our way and miss the best? If we really do believe that God loves us and cares for us with an interest in every detail of our lives, why is it that we find it difficult at times to ‘be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him’ (Psalm 37:7). Peter exhorts us ‘cast all your anxieties (cares and concerns) on Him because He cares for you’ (1 Peter 5:7). There are enough stressful situations in life to concern us, without us needing to try to carry them alone. God wants us to let Him be the burden bearer and give us peace in such situations.
Prayer: O LORD God, thank You that You care so much about the pressures and problems of life that I am concerned with and You want to carry them for me. Please help me to let go, and let You do the carrying. Thank You that there are so many encouragements in Your Word that tell me to do this, and thank You for the peace You give when I let go and hand the situation over to You. Amen.
