It’s none of your business!
by Andy Taylor
I’m sure we can all recall times when we have asked a question only to be greeted with the words, ‘It’s none of your business’. No matter how much that might frustrate us, dent our pride or challenge our ‘right’ to the information, sometimes it’s a true statement – we don’t need to know! Not knowing, however, serves two purposes; firstly it exposes our level of trust in the person who holds the information, and secondly it challenges our fear of not being in control.
I believe the Lord desires for us to grow in these two areas – our trust in Him and our lack of fear for the ‘tomorrows’ of life that are outside of our control. This is why our scripture for today, Matthew 6:34, is in the Bible! God is making it clear to us – His children – that tomorrow is actually none of our business. He’s not being mean about it – He just wants to use our lack of knowledge about the future to help us grow in our relationship with Him.
He wants us to concentrate on today and the challenges that today holds. We can be aware of things that loom in the future, but God’s heart for you and me is that we don’t worry about them. We can just ask God to supply what we need today. And His promise is that He will provide us with today’s bread. This is the way of the Kingdom.
I wonder whether you’re being plagued by anxious thoughts about tomorrow. Maybe you’re desperately seeking information from the Lord but seem to be hearing, ‘It’s none of your business’. If so, take heart! God wants to teach you to trust Him in a deeper way, to prove to you that He’s faithful in all things, and that He holds each moment of your life in His hands.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, I confess that I often live in the anxious realm of thoughts about tomorrow. Please help me to trust in You and to live each day with a sure knowledge that You hold all things together. Thank You for Your love and faithfulness, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
