Hearing, Listening and Responding to God

God’s call to Moses came after many years of caring for his father-in-law’s flock in desert places. I wonder how many people have experienced God coming to them, and speaking, while they feel that they are in a dry spell of their walk with Him?
Notice what God said; ‘Now go’. Here there is a sense of urgency that required an immediate response. God goes on to say, ‘I am sending you’. Here there is the encouragement that Moses would not be going in his own strength and doing his own thing. The Almighty One was about to take a human vessel and use him to accomplish His Divine purpose. After Moses expresses his doubts and questions to God, the LORD says; ‘Now go, and do as I have told you. I will help you speak well, and I will tell you what to say’ (Exodus 4:12).
Hearing God speaking to us is one thing, but listening to what He has said and responding in obedience is another. On the one hand we may be like Moses, and argue that we are totally unsuited for the task God has called us to, and we fail to let God do His work through us. On the other hand we may timidly respond, aware of our own inadequacy, but in obedience, we respond, and are amazed to see Him do ‘infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope’ (Ephesians. 3:20).
To ‘let go, and let God’ is an amazing experience when we lay aside our insecurities and trust God to fulfil what He has called us into. Go for it, let go, and let God do with and through you what He has called you to do.
Prayer: Lord God, You know my weaknesses, but I know that You are almighty to use someone like me to fulfil Your purposes. Please give me the courage to trust You and obey You when I hear Your call, and be glorified in my simple obedience I pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
