Habbakuk’s Prayer

The whole of chapter 3 of Habakkuk is his prayer to God. I love that second verse. It’s a reminder to us that, when our faith is being shaken, when things around us, either in the world or in our families seem to be crumbling, Habakkuk looks back and remembers God and His wonderful deeds.

There are times in our life when our faith may seem a little shaky, times when we may find ourselves in insecurity and uncertainty. That’s when we need to turn to God and look back on how God has rescued us in the past, and to trust Him for our future. Sometimes God may not answer our prayers the way we would like, but can we trust Him to answer them, in His way, as He knows what the best is for us and He can see the big picture?

When was the last time we remembered God’s awesome deeds and took time to ponder and meditate on them, instead of always remembering the circumstances we’re in, and focussing on those?

Do we ask God to renew His awesome deeds in our life, in our family’s life, and in our country? Perhaps we’re not willing to pay the price for Him to do it in our life. Do we really want to lie down and die to self in order to live for Jesus? Can we praise our awesome God in all circumstances?

Habakkuk makes a profound statement of faith in verses 16-19. Even though there’s the frightening prospect that his nation was about to be invaded, he tells God that he will trust Him no matter what. Habakkuk couldn’t rejoice in the circumstances, but he could rejoice in his God.

We may all have those times in our lives when our faith is being shaken, and there may be questions that go unanswered, but, even then, we can trust God and not give up on Him. But, may it bring us to focus more on Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I want to thank You that You are an awesome God, and Your deeds are renowned. Help us to remember You in the midst of our circumstances, and not lose hope. For our hope is in You, our Saviour, King and Deliverer. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
