God’s Amazing Protection

As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him.
Psalm 103:13, NIV

On reading the account of Peter’s amazing deliverance from prison in Acts 12, and recognising God’s intervention in what appeared to be an impossible situation, I was reminded afresh of God’s almighty power and caring love for those who trust Him. I wonder how many who read this ‘Seed’ might be able to recount their own experiences of God’s intervention on their behalf in situations far beyond their control.

I think of myself as a boy where God clearly showed His compassion in shielding and protecting me. At the age of four, I had thirteen weeks in total isolation because of the killer disease Diphtheria, at a time when there was no inoculation or other treatment to combat the disease. Then, in mid-life I experienced almost total healing from a rapidly developing Bronchial Asthma. Later, in my early fifties there was an amazing healing from Septicaemia which developed after an operation went seriously wrong.

I think of such experiences, plus God’s amazing protection from serious injury when I was knocked off my bicycle and run over by a heavy lorry. There wasn’t a bone either chipped or broken, yet at hospital doctors said that my lower leg should have been sliced off.
In each of those situations it can only have been the intervention of the almighty and loving God preserving, protecting and bringing me through. As with Peter, seemingly impossible situations came under the care and protection of the almighty and loving Heavenly Father, and made all the difference. The praise and honour goes to Him who loved and delivered me in such amazing ways.

Such times of God’s loving intervention must surely create in believers’ hearts a sense of praise and thanks to the One who has loved and kept them. Yet it’s quite likely that they may never fully appreciate all of the fatherly compassion God has for them until they take time to stop and reflect on life’s experiences, and the devastating situations they might otherwise have gone through.

Can we not all exclaim with the words of 2 Samuel 22:2b – 3 ‘The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation?’ Hallelujah! This is the God in whom we can trust in every situation.

Prayer: Father God, I thank You for every time Your loving care has intervened, shielded, healed and preserved me from the many situations of life which could have had serious consequences. I praise You that You have kept me to this day and enabled me to bring something of that love and healing to others. Thank You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

He then moved on to become a lecturer of engineering craft skills before being called of God in his early fifties to become a pastor of a Baptist church. He says that,"having previously experienced an amazing healing on a day others expected me to die, it came as no surprise that God directed me and my wife, Margaret, to become involved with Ellel Ministries."
