Favour with God, Favour with Men

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and men.
Luke 2:52, NIV

Jesus’ aim in life was to please God, and to do His will was His main objective. He once said 'my food is to do the will of the one who sent me and to finish His work’ (John 4:34).Though there was every chance for Him to be recognized and become famous, He humbled Himself. But in every way He also had favour with men, not because He pleased them but because he was doing God’s will and God gave Him favour and authority to confront evil.

In the world today there is a big appetite for wealth and fame. The TV programmes are mostly focused on fame and money. The world is becoming a field of competition and now many people’s focus is how to get in the media and be famous. There’s a great chance of us being deceived by what’s happening in the world and by having an envy of the world’s ways.

The only way that God wants us to live is to live to please Him, and not men, and in turn we will find favour with men. Then we can have authority and be able to stand against the evil things that are happening in our society .

Many people sought to please God and God gave them favour. Daniel refused to heed the command to cease to pray, and through this the entire nation was changed. Other examples are Esther who went before the king and Nehemiah.

Seek to please God in all you do then He will grant you favour with men and His blessing will be upon you like it was with these servants of God.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, forgive me for the times I have desired to please men instead of pleasing You. Help me to live to please You in all I do. Thank You, Lord. Amen.
