Coming Home to Father
by Angela Weir
Sometimes when people come to ask for prayer ministry, it’s as if they’re expecting God to do everything for them. There can be an attitude of ‘do it for me, God’ and then they hope to carry on with their lives as before, only feeling better.
A little while ago the Lord showed me a picture. It was of a bridge and He was standing at one end of it and I was at the other. The bridge wasn’t to divide us but to join us together. If I took a step on the bridge, the Lord would come towards me, but I had to make the first step.
The story Jesus told in Luke chapter 15 is a wonderful story of reconciliation between a wayward son and a loving father. When the son realised that he had really messed up his life and couldn’t manage without his father any longer, he took the first step on the homeward journey. But his father, who had been watching out for him and longing for this moment, ran towards him. Jesus paints a wonderful picture. It would have been so undignified for the elderly father to pick up his long robe. He would have exposed his knobbly knees and spindly legs. But he didn’t care about his dignity, because his beloved son was coming home!
And that’s how it is with us. God will do His part - as long as we are prepared to do ours.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You that You are a loving Father who is so willing to bring healing into my life. Please help me to be willing to recognise and lay down the things that are a hindrance in my walk with you. Amen.
