Chosen

My son, Kyle, really blessed me earlier today when we were playing at a local park. All of a sudden he took great interest in the expanse of daisies that covered the grassy play area. Ignoring the usual climbing frames, swings and slides, my not quite two-year old took it upon himself to go looking for the perfect daisy to give to me. I stood watching him race to and fro amongst the patches of daisies and responded with great joy and pleasure when he finally found one that he thought was suitable and offered it to me. Encouraged by my response, he headed off again, racing around, examining daises. He rejected many before he found another daisy that he considered suitable and offered this one to me as well.

This continued for quite a while and as I watched my son, I was touched by a sense of what Jesus has done for each of us. The Bible says that we were chosen by Him. Just as Kyle turned away from his own pleasure of the park and averted his attention onto blessing me, so did Jesus turn away from His home in heaven to bless us here on earth. Not only that, but He continues to seek out those who catch his attention and brings them back to the Father (through the cross) as an offering of joy and pleasure.

As I considered this, I looked at the collection of daisies I was accumulating, expecting them all to be perfect and carefully chosen because of their beauty or outward appearance. The reality is that many had lost petals, damaged stalks or just looked as though they were dying. I have no idea what Kyle’s criteria for a “suitable” daisy was, just as we cannot understand why we ourselves, would be chosen to be an offering of love to The Father.

With such a thought, surely our only response can be one of wonder and praise as we thank Almighty God for choosing you and I, despite our weaknesses and imperfections. May we never lose sight of what God has done for us and how blessed we are to be chosen by Him.

Prayer: Thank You God that I am chosen by You. Thank You that You respond to me with joy and pleasure. I praise You and give thanks to You for saving me, despite my weaknesses and my imperfections. In Jesus Name, Amen.
