Are You Where You Want To Be?

Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, `This is the way you should go,` whether to the right or to the left.
Isaiah 30:21, NLT

Each of us is longing to grow in Jesus. That`s my assumption for the purpose of this devotion. We have the best intentions. We even make plans as to how we can arrive at a closer walk. We spend time with the Lord, read and study His Word, pray and have a regular quiet time, read inspirational books, stay in godly fellowship, and go on mission trips.

However, we get tempted by so many things that turn our attentions away from hearing and pursuing the Lord. They might even be worthy or holy tasks: directing a church programme, visiting sick friends, providing meals for those needing help, discipling a new Christian.

Also we may turn towards activities that are just necessary to our lives: driving children to their activities, working, meeting extended family demands, and others. Then there are the pleasures of life: reading, friends, hobbies, church activities - all good things, but not if they are distracting us from hearing the Lord`s voice or meeting with Him.

We have to be aware that there are many moments when we have to make a cold, hard choice to turn away from the temptations that keep us from our goals. When we allow ourselves to be led another way, we choose to live in the shadows of what might be possible.

What choice do we make when we feel our relationship beginning to fade? Do we wait until the ‘bit’ needs to be inserted in our mouths to get us back on the course?

Isn’t it strange how the very relationship that pours life into us can be so cavalierly neglected. After all, it’s the way we creatures receive our source of life from our Creator and fulfill the plans He has for us.

We actually decide how holy we want to be. The choice is ours!

Prayer: Father, forgive me for allowing the distractions of my life to come between You and me. Help me to always seek You first. Be Lord of my spiritual growth and lead me in Your ways. In the name of Your son, Jesus. Amen.
