In this scripture we see Jesus making a very important appointment with the disciples to meet Him in Galilee after He was raised from the dead. An appointment is a promise to meet a person at a particular place in the future. The nature of an appointment is perhaps also a way to understand the promises of God, as a place where God wants to meet or do something in our lives in the future.
So many of us have experienced disappointment when we have let others down, or others have let us down. Very often a history of such experiences of empty promises by others or ourselves may lead us into a place where we start to protect ourselves from being disappointed. We may miss out on the fullness of life because of our lack of trust. The way we are unable to trust has an effect on how we react to God, His Word and His promises.
We read in the Word how Jesus kept His promise after He was raised from the dead. He surprised His disciples by meeting them on a beach in Galilee and we see how Jesus then took particular care to restore Peter back into a relationship with Himself. In the Ministry we often see how God restores people’s trust in His faithfulness so that they can pursue all His purposes for them.
Courage to trust again starts with recognising the presence of mistrust in our lives. God may show a situation where we need to forgive someone or even forgive ourselves. As we repent of our sins, forgive and find the courage to trust again, God will restore us.
Prayer: Thank you Lord that you are a faithful God. Lord, I ask today that You’ll help me to start growing in my faith and being able to trust You. Thank you that all Your promises are ‘yes’ and ‘amen’ in Christ Jesus, Amen
