The Strength to Rescue you

When I came, why was there no one? When I called, why was there no one to answer? Was my arm too short to ransom you? Do I lack the strength to rescue you?
Isaiah 50:2, NIV

Once I was driving on the motorway when I sensed I should slow down and move to the inside lane. As I did this my wheel started to wobble, but I was able to pull off the road. It was night time, very dark, and I was in the middle of the countryside during a storm. I managed to find a phone and call for the roadside rescue service. Within a short while, the man arrived. The nuts on the wheel had sheared off and he had to take the car to a garage. My daughter and I climbed into his warm rescue van. Eventually we were able to continue our journey in safety but were told that it could have caused a serious accident and we were really lucky.

I was very thankful to the Lord for I knew that He had protected us. There was an advert at that time for that particular roadside rescue association. It said ‘I may not be able to help you, but I know a man who can’. I have often thought that when difficult situations arise which we can’t do anything about the Sovereign Lord has been sent to help us. He can rescue and deliver us when there’s a breakdown. And we can say to others whenever we can’t help them, that we know the Man who can help, the Lord Jesus.

I believe that He’s able to ransom, rescue and save. ‘Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them’ (Hebrews 7:25).

These are wonderful, comforting words. When there is no one else to turn to the Lord comes to us. ‘Because he loves me,’ says the Lord, ‘I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him’ (Psalm 91:14 – 15). He hears your deepest prayer and knows your heart cry, and can change and restore life’s situations as you allow Him to change you.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the many times You have rescued me and protected me, without my knowing. Help me to trust You implicitly as I place each day’s battle in Your hands. In Jesus’ Name.
