Obedience

The Lord warned Israel and Judah through all his prophets and seers: “Turn from your evil ways. Observe my commands and decrees, in accordance with the entire Law that I commanded your ancestors to obey and that I delivered to you through my servants the prophets.”
2 Kings 17:13, NIV

Someone told me that they always read through the whole Bible, but it gets hard when they get to Leviticus. So I gave myself the challenge to read through the book of Leviticus. The most amazing thing is that I couldn’t put my Bible down when I got to Leviticus. I realised that the heart of God was in it.

Most people read Leviticus as a book of do’s and don’ts, but don’t grasp why God gave His laws, commands and decrees. I guess it might have been so for the children of Israel too when they received these laws and commands. But the fact is God sees the whole picture. He knows the why, the when and the how that we don’t usually see.

King David got the revelation of the goodness in God’s laws and commandments and decrees, and said: ‘See how I love your precepts; preserve my life, LORD, in accordance with your love. All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal’ (Psalm 119:159). In fact he wrote the whole of Psalm 119 with a great passion about the laws and commands of God. Try reading it; it’s very inspiring.

How amazing to see the laws of God coming into effect as we obey or disobey them. I see the faithfulness of God as He fulfills His word. When we disregard and disobey the commandments of God we face the consequences of our disobedience. We don’t have to look far to see people living in consequences of their sins because they chose to reject and abandon God’s laws. BUT when we obey the laws and commandments of God, we reap the consequences of our obedience.

God sees the whole picture; He knows the end before we even start. Even in our days and times we see the Scripture being fulfilled the prophecies of long ago. For example take these words from the prophet Jeremiah:

‘This is what the LORD says: ‘You say about this place, “It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.” Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying,” Give thanks to the LORD Almighty for the LORD is good his love endures forever.” For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the LORD’ (Jeremiah 33:10-11).

And now today we can see the children of Israel are returning to the Land of Israel. There is singing and dancing in the streets of Jerusalem as prophesied. God saw it then and proclaimed it and thousands of years later, ITS HAPPENING!!

If God is asking you to do something, it may look out of place or even unnecessary, but the best thing is to obey, because in obedience is blessing. He sees what the end result will be. He knows why He has asked you to take that move and He surely will show up in the end.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the care You show through revealing Your word to me. Please help me to be obedient to everything You ask of me and to trust You for the end results. I give all of myself to Your love, care and grace. Amen.
