Jesus welcomed the people, taught them about the Kingdom of God and healed those in need. Luke 9:11

Seeds of the Kingdom

A Technological Testimony

by Judith Whitehead

Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.
Proverbs 16:3, NIV

Not being an expert with technology, I can often encounter problems. Recently Amazon changed how emails are presented in my account. I wanted to find the ‘change password’ setting, which wasn’t a problem on the previous layout. I searched on Google to see if I could find how to achieve my task, but none of the online instructions or You tube videos appeared to match this new version. I struggled for a very long time, without success, and have to admit I ended up becoming extremely stressed about it.

Old voices from the past began to torment me. Voices that told me, things like, “You’re useless. Can’t you do anything right? Things are bound to go wrong. You need to stand on your own two feet and not trouble anyone else with your problems”.

I was feeling such a failure as I reached bedtime. My mind was in turmoil, and I could not settle. I decided to pray about it. My prayer was simply, “O Lord, please sort this problem out for me, because I haven’t a clue what to do, and You know how stressed out I am with it.”

In all honesty, I was thinking, does God really care about my technology problems, and is it right to pray about these sort of issues? After praying, I actually managed to settle down fairly quickly, and went off to sleep soon afterwards, waking the next morning feeling at peace. In the evening I decided to try again to find the change password setting, and in a short while I found out how to do it.

For me, this problem with the computer was a stress – for others it would be just a blip in the day. We are all so different and even small things can trigger anxiety in our heart in different ways in different people. But I truly believe God guided me through the process when I asked Him to help me, because I honestly don’t know how I accomplished it. I just somehow got to where I needed to be. I truly believe God answered my prayer. I felt quite excited about it.

Yes, I realise that, in the grand scheme of things, my life wouldn’t have been hindered if the problem with Amazon had continued, but this experience reminded me that God certainly does care about every single aspect of my life, especially the areas that cause me great anxiety. If He cares about the small moments then how much more does He care about the big issues! ‘Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer, and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus’ (Philippians 4:6-7).

He doesn’t want you or me to be anxious about anything, because He knows the destructive power of anxiety and how it has detrimental effects on our mental, and sometimes our physical, health, nor does He want us to be ashamed to admit our anxiety. We can tell God about absolutely anything that is bothering us. Following the answer to my prayer, I felt really encouraged and sensed His love for me in a tangible way.
