The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

Walking in the light

He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy.
Proverbs 18:13, NIV

Hide and seek may be a children’s game, but many keep playing it all their life. Not hiding themselves, but their bad sides, and not finding their playmates, but the bad sides of others. However, the Lord tells us this has its consequences. The way to be free is not to hide anything, but to confess; not to defend, but to renounce.

King David is only one of many who tried this, and he describes his experiences in Psalms 32 and 51. Nothing is as liberating as confession, nothing as uplifting as giving up your excuses!

When this becomes a lifestyle, it is called ‘walking in the light’. It’s no longer a special event, marked on the calendar or in one’s memory, but a natural way of walking with the Lord - and He is great in mercy. It’s not a lifestyle where we seek the Lord on Sunday but live with our problems the rest of the week. It’s a lifestyle where it’s natural for us to talk to the Lord, even about the smallest things of life, when they happen.

Many years ago I came across a Japanese book called ‘The God who is also in the kitchen’. Although I didn’t read it, I really liked the title. I suppose it was aimed at housewives, but you could change the title to fit your circumstances: The God who is also in the office, the God who is also in the factory, or the God who is also in the school.

It means that as you walk in the light while doing your daily chores, you also walk in freedom. You don’t walk in perfection, but you walk in daily mercy and grace. Your heavenly Father smiles on you and blesses you, even though you don’t feel you’ve earned it.

Prayer: Help me Lord to walk in the light at all times and to face the reality of any secret parts of my life for which I need help. Thank you that your mercy is sufficient to cover all my sins when I confess and renounce them. In Jesus' name, Amen.
