The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

Humility and Holiness

Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he had come from God and was going to God, got up from the table … Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him.
John 13 3-5, NRSV

Peter, James and John were witnesses of the transfiguration of Jesus, when He led them up a mountain to pray. It was during prayer that His face and clothing changed in appearance, and they saw His glory.

Right up until this point, although they knew there was something very different and very special about Jesus, they still didn’t really understand who He was. But now, on this mountainside, His majestic presence was visible - they were in the holy presence of the King of kings.

The only other person who had ever had the privilege of witnessing the majesty of God was Moses, when centuries earlier, he also ascended a mountain at the invitation of Almighty God.

Now Moses was present again, along with Elijah, talking with Jesus, and both of them were clearly recognised by Jesus’ disciples. This was a most holy moment.

Yet, the heart of Jesus, and thus the heart of Almighty God (as Jesus had said ‘anyone who has seen me has seen the Father’ (John 14:9) was always on display through Jesus’ words and mighty miracles. But it was when He, the Son of God whose right it is to reign, took a towel and ‘poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was tied around him’, that the key to the essence of His being was seen, by all of His disciples, and for their example.

This same quality of humility was what God had seen in Moses, when he was described as ‘a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth’ (Numbers 12:3).

To encourage us on life’s journey, God has allowed these most holy events to be recorded in Scripture, not only to give us a taste of heaven, but so that we can get a glimpse of the One who is our Lord and Saviour, Master and Friend.

In this present age, which is steeped with pride and arrogance, the wonderful quality of humility is what the Almighty is looking for in all of His disciples.

This same humble, but majestic, Jesus, is the One who watches over us and covers us with His righteousness.

Prayer: Thank You, Jesus, for sharing with us Your humility and showing us Your holiness. Help us Lord to follow Your example, in our daily lives that we might bring glory to Your name. Amen.
