Uncage the Lion

Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.”
Revelation‬ ‭5:5,NIV

I heard a lovely lady giving a talk recently about speaking out the Word of God and she entitled her talk: ‘Uncage the Lion’. I immediately thought, “What a wonderful title! I could do something with that”. And this is it.

We are told in the scriptures that ‘the Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two edged sword, even to the pulling down of strongholds’ (Hebrews 4:12). This to me is a picture of a very powerful lion, but a lion that needs to be released, or uncaged, in order for it to do its job.

“How do we do that?” I asked myself. “How do we uncage the lion?” One of the answers would seem to be that we release God’s Word when we put it on our lips and speak it out.

For example, someone may need to know the power of forgiveness in their lives, so we speak God’s Word to them: ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness’ (1 John 1:9). As we uncage the lion, the Word of God is released to do His work, taking forgiveness straight into the spirit of the person in need.

Or maybe a person may need release from stress and anxiety, so we uncage the lion (God’s Word) by speaking out the truth and the invitation from Jesus who is the living word: ‘Come unto me all ye who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest’ (Matthew 11:28).

Now, as we know, it’s not always as easy as that, but this dear lady made me think and ask the questions: “Is there a deep truth here which we need to examine?” And “Do we need to uncage the Word of God and put it on our tongues in order to know more of its power in our lives and in that of others?”

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for the provision of Your Scriptures and we ask that we might remember how powerful that Word is. We also ask that we might learn how to speak it out on our own behalf and that of others in order that the lion might be uncaged. Help us also to understand the power of both the written word and the living word, even our Saviour Jesus Christ, who’s the Lion of the tribe of Judah. In His name, we pray. Amen.
