Tolerating the Moths
by Cath Taylor
29 October 2025
« Previous Day“Oh, it’s only a little moth, nothing to worry about” Andy and I would say to each other as the little moth fluttered on to our bedside lamps at night.
How wrong could we be!
I have since discovered that those little “harmless” moths are mini terrorists which have destroyed more than one of my favourite jumpers over the past year. I am now on a mission to destroy them!
My holey jumpers and our glib “Oh they are only little moths” has stayed with me and got me thinking about the verse above.
How many times do we feel the Holy Spirit knocking at the door of our hearts wanting us to look at something. For example, do we fall into gossip with a certain friend. Do we have little “harmless” addictions we use to make us feel a bit better (too many glasses of wine, too much food, violent movies, or too much of anything other than God). We probably all have something that God wants to work on in our lives. But are we listening to Him or just ignoring these things as weaknesses.
I look back on those times we would say “Oh it’s only…” and I really wish I had taken more notice and followed through on taking them captive.
Are there things in your heart that God is trying to get your attention with? These “Oh it’s only…” soon grow into bigger issues if we don’t deal with them. They become things that hinder our relationship with God and His Holy Spirit’s work in and through us.
So often the enemy gets a hold in our lives and causes damage through us tolerating the little foxes in our lives. We tolerate sin, wrong habits, and behaviours, and neglect to see the full damage they are doing.
Why not stop now and ask God to show you by His Holy Spirit today if there are little foxes you are tolerating that need to be dealt with. He is there to help us.
