The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

The yoke of Jesus – a simple lesson in mechanics

Take my yoke and put it on you, and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in spirit; and you will find rest. For the yoke I will give you is easy, and the load I will put on you is light.
Matthew 11:29-30, GNB

Imagine two oxen side by side, pulling a heavy cart. The wooden yoke across their necks transfers their strength to the shaft of the cart so that it moves forward. One of these oxen is much bigger and stronger than the other. In this case the yoke equalizes their strength, as each ox pulls as hard as it can, but the stronger ox does the most work.

Now imagine that you are pulling a cart loaded with all the burdens of life. The task is heavy, almost impossible. But what if you had a yoke across your shoulders and beside you was Jesus, also pulling? Which one of you is stronger? Which one does the yoke allow to do the most work?

Stop trying to pull that load alone. Accept the yoke with humility, and let Jesus share the heavy load. You will find rest at last, and something else as well: the yoke keeps you close beside Jesus. You have a guide always beside you, who is also doing most of the work. What could be better?

Prayer: Jesus, please forgive me for trying to solve my own problems and carry my own burdens. I gladly accept Your yoke. Thank You for binding me close to Your side and for lightening my load. Amen.
