The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

The Road Map

Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and left during the night for Egypt.
Matthew 2:14, GNB

In the Bible we read the story that Joseph took Mary and the young child to Egypt. The Angel of the Lord told him that they had to leave for their own safety. Joseph probably enquired during the journey about the way to Egypt from the locals in the area. The directions must have been reliable because Joseph, Mary and the baby arrived at their destination without getting lost along the way.

Last year, our daughter who lives in Australia, paid a visit to her husband’s family in Mossel Bay, which was quite a long way from where we live in Durban. Fortunately for us, our other daughter and son-in-law drove us by car to see the family to have some precious fellowship with them.

On the way back our son-in-law set the GPS in the car to follow its directions, as we drove home. After a day’s journey on the way home, we discovered that the GPS had led us to drive in some really dangerous areas. There are some places in our country that can be life-threatening if a vehicle breaks down. Fortunately, we were able to find a safer route the rest of the way home, after some really intense prayer to the Lord.

The GPS was unreliable. We could have been in deep trouble. In this country we sometimes have faulty or missing road signs, if we drive off the main roads. A traveller could easily get lost by following road signs in some areas.

My point is what can we trust today? The internet can be a dangerous place. It can be unreliable. The road signs of life are rapidly changing and are very confusing for us Christians. What was seen as wrong in the era our parents lived in is seen as acceptable among the majority of people today. We need reliable information to negotiate the minefields of modern living today.

Road maps are hardly ever used today Yet, if I had had a road map in my pocket, we would not have been directed to a dangerous area with possibly dreadful consequences.

The road map of life, the Bible, is essential for living a successful life. In the pages of that amazing book we are guided past the dangerous places. We are encouraged when we are struggling through a difficult time in our lives. The Bible is full of living scriptures that can our change lives when we are going overwhelming circumstances. Jesus came to show us a way. He made sure we were provided with a road map for us to use. It contains the way to true inner peace and joy.

Have you read your road map today? Let me encourage you to read and study the word of God, the Bible.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, as I open the Bible, and read its pages, please show me what You are saying to me. Amen.
