The Most Beautiful Thing
by Ron Scurfield
The most beautiful thing in the world must be standing in the presence of the living God.
My heart is filled with longing. My soul yearns for Your touch. For this I hunger. Life is meaningless without You. "To rest in your presence, not rushing away; to cherish each moment, here I would stay. This is my desire, O Lord. This is my desire."(From the Song, To be in Your presence)
“You are my God. Earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You. My body longs for You in this parched and weary land where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1).
I hunger for Your love. I have tasted and found it to be good. - O so good. “My soul longs, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God” (Psalm 84:2}.
And Jesus. The most beautiful name I have ever heard. Jesus, the embodiment of a perfect life. The epitome of love. My ultimate pleasure and joy is to be with You, day by day, every day. Perfect submission, perfect delight, visions of rapture now burst on my sight. This is my story, this is my song praising my Saviour all the day long. (From the Song Blessed Assurance)
He is here, moving among us. Jesus, the very sound of your name ignites the embers of my heart. I bow at your feet as You lift me up, higher and higher, into your presence, into your glory, into your love. Precious Jesus. Through perfect obedience and perfect submission You have made a way for hope, peace and joy and a pathway to heaven; angels ascending and descending at the will of the Father.
Who can compare with His majesty, His tenderness, His compassion. He is my life, my joy and my peace. Receive Him. Trust Him. Love Him.
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth.. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.” (John 14:16,17).
Holy Spirit. The bridge to the Father and the Son. “When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13). He lives in you. He lives in me. We need to give him freedom to lead us into everything that is wholesome, edifying and Holy. He leads us to the Father, introduced to us by the Son.
What is this life, if so full of the cares of the world we have no time enjoy the treasures that surround us? - Visible and invisible. ‘Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord and He shall lift you up’ ..higher and higher, into the realms of glory.
This is why we were created. “We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). Empowered by the Holy Spirit, redeemed by the Son. “All who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:14).
This too is a most beautiful thing.
