The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

The Lost Ring

Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins and loses one. Won’t she light a lamp and sweep the entire house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she will call in her friends and neighbours and say, “Rejoice with me because I have found my lost coin”.
Luke 15:8-9, NLT

On January 24th this year, I lost my wedding ring. My fingers sometimes swell in the summer heat, so I take my ring off. But I always sit the ring in one of two places so I don’t ever lose it. But on the morning of the 25th of January, I went to look for my wedding ring in those two places, and it was not there. So there started a big search. I went through everything. I tipped the whole house upside-down, but I didn’t find my ring. I wondered if I had lost it when I was out of the house that day. But nothing, I couldn’t find it. So I went into the following days with high anticipation that my lost wedding ring would turn up somewhere. But it didn’t. The months rolled on. I wore my engagement ring to cover for the missing wedding ring, but I felt embarrassed.

By the sixth month mark of having lost the wedding ring, I was seriously losing heart that the wedding ring would be found. I was starting to think that I might need to look at buying another one from the jeweller. I decided to give it until our anniversary, coming in September. But I prayed, and, with a very deep cry to God, I asked Him if He could possibly help find my wedding ring by our anniversary.

Two weeks before our anniversary, I was looking for the lost TV remote control under the sofa. I actually caught sight of something that made me look deeper into the sofa. It was a section that I had never seen before. Next thing, I knew I found my daughter’s lost mobile phone. My hope began to rise. Maybe the wedding ring was here somewhere. I pulled the sofa apart, and lifted it up, and there on the floor was my lost wedding ring. It was found. I ran around the house waking everybody up to show them my ring. I was overjoyed. How faithful God had been!

My story has a similarity to a parable Jesus told in Luke 15:8-10, the parable of the lost coin. Verse 10 of the parable ends with Jesus applying the meaning of the parable ‘In the same way there is joy in the presence of God’s angels when even one sinner repents’.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You for Your Word. Thank You that when we repent from our sin and turn to You, there’s a party among the angels in Your presence, with the same joy felt as when a lost coin or a lost ring is found. I’m so glad You delight to find that which is lost. I praise You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
