The God of All Comfort
by Tracy Bankuti
When God called you forth from your mother’s womb, comfort was meant to be waiting to greet you. It should have been there in your mother’s voice while you were in the womb, her tears of joy and your father’s proud glistening eyes and strong embrace at delivery and even the smiles of delight on the faces of those who were present at your birth, all a recognition of the miraculous gift, joy and wonder of life!
To bring comfort is to soothe, console, or reassure. You were meant to experience comfort from the first moment of your life here on earth, but sadly, that may not be your story.
No matter what your story, Jesus came with the intention of bringing a divine exchange here on earth; His life for yours! His pain, shame, rejection, and sorrow for yours. His death for yours; an unfathomable sacrifice from the Father’s heart for you!
Isaiah 61 details the ministry Jesus came to deliver and the fruit it will bear in the lives of those who believe in His name and give their hearts to Him.
‘To comfort all who mourn, and to provide for those who grieve in Zion, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor’ (Isaiah 61:2b-3).
The world around us also offers an exchange for the lack of comfort that may be your reality, but it has nothing to do with giving, only taking. It too will bear fruit in your life.
‘The thief comes only to steal kill and destroy’ (John 10:10a). The thief’s proposal looks like this; more work, more sleep, food, alcohol, drugs, porn, social media, spending, shopping, self-gratification, sex, and the list goes on.
The lack of true comfort in your beginnings is a reality that can be brought to the Father of all comfort. Unless we face our reality, healing will never be fully realized. We will spend our time and money on what can only be filled by the Father who conceived us in the womb of His heart.
If this is your story my heart goes out to you because it is my story as well. But there is hope today because despite the reality of the thief, there is a Saviour who came to give you an abundant full life (John 10:10b)! Let’s pray into this together.
