The Beauty of the Lord

`Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path`
Psalm 119:105, ESV

Some time ago my son and I went to see fireworks with some of our friends. To find the perfect spot we walked along the canal in pitch blackness using our torches. By the time we reached where we were going, the fireworks began. It was a beautiful ten-minute display of vibrant colours, shapes, and patterns. My son and I kept on saying to each other “Wow, this is so beautiful!” We kept looking up and couldn’t take our eyes off the beauty in front of us.

As I thought of it later, I was reminded of the scripture in Psalm 27:4:

`One thing I asked of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life and `gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple`.

How important it is to look up to the Lord and remind ourselves of how beautiful, faithful, forgiving, and loving our Father is! When we looked up and saw the firework display, the darkness around us didn’t seem as dark anymore.

When we choose to find time in our busy day and look up to Him, our perspective changes. We find encouragement in Him. We find confidence in Him, and the strength to continue serving Him.

When we walked back along the canal, the children were getting a bit distracted with chatting away and were not always lighting up the path. We had to stop until we could see it again so we could continue our walk home.

The Bible says, `Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path` (Psalm 119:105).

It`s only when it`s completely dark that we realise how important the light is. But God’s word is available to us to light up our path when we don’t know the way. He is there to guide us when we feel lost.

I want to encourage you today to find time to `gaze upon the beauty of the Lord` and remind yourself of who He is and what He has done in your life, and that the light of His word is there to light up your way when you don’t see a way forward.
