Red and White Balls
by Joan Rono
On a bright sunny day a few young people and I went out to the Lake District to have some fun. I had no idea that it was the day I would face one of my worst phobias!
We went down to the lake in Windermere, but I was frightened by the idea of going on a boat trip for a whole hour and being away from the safe shores of the lake. I had to face my fear of drowning. With some persuasion from the others I was able to get into the boat, with a flotation jacket of course! I was able to remain calm and I actually enjoyed the whole trip.
I was fascinated by all the safety precautions - wearing the safety jacket, and keeping away from the red and white balls. The red balls were placed near the shores or places where the waters were shallow and the white balls were placed next to the parked boats. We had to avoid them both.
In our lives God has placed boundaries to make sure we’re safe and able to enjoy the journey we’re in. Some of these boundaries may seem unnecessary because we think we can do it our own way. When you’re on a boat you can’t see the depth of the water unless it’s clear water, so to keep safe we had to avoid those red balls. Though we couldn’t see the rocks or shallowness, God can. He sees what’s beyond our eyesight and places the boundaries for us to keep us safe. The moment we step out of those boundaries we’re risking our lives. We’re out of His safe covering.
The boundaries for us are made clear in the Word of God. God instructs us in His Word and we must stay within His purposes and plans for our lives by being obedient to His will.
Prayer: Lord, I know You put boundaries in my life for my own safety but I sometimes want to do it my own way instead of Yours. I know I’m not safe when I’m out of Your covering. Please help me to be able to obey Your word and instructions, keep me safe in Your cover. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
