The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

Seeds of the Kingdom

Moments of a Lifetime

by Patricia Lake

But they urged him strongly, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening; the day is almost over”. So, He went in to stay with them.
Luke 24:29, NIVUK

This well-known story depicts two disciples who didn’t recognise the presence of the Lord among them, even as they journeyed and talked together with Him, in the days following the crucifixion and resurrection. On their journey to Emmaus, they were discussing the events of Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection. However, as they spoke about Him, He drew near, and started walking with them. Did you know that when you speak about Jesus He draws near to walk with you?

God listens to our conversations. In Malachi 3:16-17 we’re reminded that ‘They that feared the LORD spoke often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name. And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels’. What precious verses. This should prompt us all to talk even more about the Lord than we do at present.

Cleopas and his companion found themselves pouring their hearts out to Him, thinking He was just a stranger. They spoke of the sadness and the disappointment of their hopes and dreams being unfulfilled. So engulfed were they in their thoughts and minds concerning the events that had surrounded them in the last few days, they were completely oblivious to who He was.

Sometimes we’re so preoccupied with everyday difficulties, and struggling with sorting them out ourselves, that we often don’t even think to include the Lord at that particular moment. Somewhere along the line the flesh imposes itself and veils His presence from our sight. Yet He’s standing right there - listening, waiting for us to enquire of Him, like David of old.

Jesus expounded the scriptures to the two, helping them to understand what had taken place. There are many things in life beyond our understanding, and only He, the Spirit of wisdom, knowledge and understanding, prophecy and revelation, can make known these things where we lack understanding.

As they approached the village, and He acted as if He was continuing on His journey, they persuaded Him to stay. Jesus always waits to be invited – even though He’s standing in the doorway of our day. He’s present, but graciously awaits our invitation. He never imposes Himself. If they hadn’t invited Him, they would have missed the moments of a lifetime.

As they sat down to eat, and He broke bread and blessed them, suddenly revelation came and their eyes were unveiled. This is the meal that Jesus specifically asked that we do in remembrance of Him, and there is a preciousness about it that’s unequalled on any other occasion. They realised that deity had been in their midst all along.

This very day Jesus is waiting to expel the disappointment of the past, and bring fresh revelation into your situation. Just give Him the opportunity.

Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for all You accomplished for us through Your cross. Forgive us our preoccupations, and the busyness of our lives, when we don’t consult You as we should. We surrender all to You, and invite You to reveal Yourself afresh to us. We need You, Lord. Amen.
