Loyalty Versus Truth
by David Cross
The Church is being shaken in these days. Reports of abuse and cover-up of the same seem to be constantly coming to the surface. God’s mercy and healing are available for everyone who confesses sin and turns to Him, but He is determined to provide a pure bride for His Son, and He will not allow any defilement to remain hidden.
One of the reasons that such issues have taken so long to come into the light is the desire by some people, not least leaders, to maintain loyalty towards a particular group or an individual. Loyalty is a commendable characteristic in anyone’s life but, when the pursuit of loyalty results in the suppression of truth, there is opportunity in that place of spiritual darkness for the enemy to wreak havoc.
I remember praying with a dear man who had been abused as a child by a member of his wider family. Until that day when we were praying together, he had been unable to speak about what had happened because of an oppressive culture of loyalty that had governed attitudes within the family. As he chose to share the truth of the abuse, God brought a breakthrough of healing that I will never forget.
Truth is a doorway to freedom, cleansing and healing. Loyalty, however well-intentioned, should never be allowed to deny the revealing of truth.
