Knowing God’s Destiny for You

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.
Deuteronomy 31:6, NIV

In Deuteronomy 31: 1-8, words of assurance and promise are stated twice. The LORD spoke to Joshua and the Israelites through Moses, before he left them. God told Moses that he wouldn’t be the one to lead the Israelites into their inheritance. That responsibility would be entrusted to Joshua, who was to succeed Moses. God promised the Israelites their inheritance, and only required the Israelites to obey His law, which was to be read by the priest once every seven years, and to put their absolute trust and faith in Him.

However, we discover that, in the Book of Judges, Chapter 2:10-13, the children of the Israelites, who didn’t know God and had very little knowledge of what He’d done, departed from the ways of God and began to serve other gods. This provoked God’s anger, and He removed His protective covering and handed the Israelites over to their enemies.
Today, we can be faced with similar situations. We can disobey God, treat His word very lightly, or have a poor knowledge of the word of God. When faced with challenging situations, we can succumb to the pressure and begin to compromise under the weight. Do we give in, out of fear, because we forget His promise, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’? Do we allow these challenges and situations to overwhelm us, and then give in and begin to follow the patterns of this world?

We don’t want to be a people who have a shallow knowledge of God’s word and live a life of compromise. Let’s be careful we don’t have tendencies to interpret God’s word according to our own need and understanding. We need to beware of making excuses and twisting God’s word to suit our situation.

If you feel challenged today, we need to repent and ask God to forgive our waywardness. Let’s hunger for more of God’s word and cling on to His promises. God never breaks His promise for you and me. Let’s put our faith and trust in Him and stay focussed on our relationship with Him. We have a new covenant through Jesus Christ. In the same manner, Jesus sent His Spirit to dwell in us and He will never leave or forsake us. His Spirit will lead and guide us.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I’m sorry for not allowing You to guide and direct my life. I repent of my waywardness. LORD, today, I ask for Your forgiveness, for taking Your word very lightly, and for not diligently studying and storing Your word in my innermost being. Because of this shallow knowledge of Your love and Your planned destiny for me, I’ve allowed myself to be shaken by the daily challenges I face and I’ve compromised my life. LORD, I ask that You come once again and re-ignite the fire in me. Help me to stay on course and be diligent in studying and obeying Your word. In Jesus’ name, I ask and pray. Amen.
