Keep the Connection
by Kate Davies
I have recently been having internet problems. No emails, no internet banking and no Facebook. I surprised myself, as it was the lack of online banking which worried me most. If I had no quick and easy way to see how much I had left in my account, how was I going to make sure I stayed out of the red?
It got me thinking about our personal connection to God being a bit like the internet. For if I lose connection with God, or my "spiritual internet" goes down, if you like, how will I be able to see what’s happening with my "spiritual bank accounts"? As in the parable of the sower whose seed fell on good ground and bad, if I have no connection with God, or it’s intermittent, how will I know where He wants me to invest my time, energy and money?
But, if we stay closely connected to God, we won’t only stay within the bounds of His will for our life, (like me staying out of the red), but, as it says in Colossians 2:19, God will cause us to grow. For with God as head of our lives, our connection isn’t to the local cable internet, but to the Creator of the universe. He knows every hair on our head (Matthew 10:30), and His plans are to prosper and not to harm us (Jeremiah 29:11).
So how do we keep that connection? It might help to know how I lost my internet connection. I neglected to do my updates. So, I suggest that we keep "updating" ourselves by staying in relationship with God, spending time in His presence regularly and maintaining our connection to Him and His will for our lives.
Prayer: Dear Father, please help us live our lives connected to You. Help us to stay connected to You in the security of Your will. Deepen our relationship with You, so that our heart cry is to know You more. Amen.
