Keep on Keeping on

by Ruth Hawkey

I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.
Psalm 130:5, NLT

Quite a long time ago someone who was very wise said to me, “It’s not how you start but how you finish.”

How very true that is! For example, I remember the shame of finishing second from last in the running race on the school sports day. My parents tried to encourage me to keep going, but I was all ready to give up.

However, that experience has encouraged me in many future fresh and new challenges. I could try harder, get up and give it another go, or eventually recognise my strengths and weaknesses and stop.

Fortunately, the Lord knows each one of us inside out. He knows what we can achieve and what will be too much for us. So, if He is asking us to do something, we can be certain that, in His strength, it will be possible to achieve what He wants from us.

Who would have thought that Daniel would have been able to tame lions, or that King David would be able to slay giants.

I wonder what the Lord is asking from you today, or maybe in the coming weeks. Whatever it is, please be assured that, in His strength, all things are possible. You can safely go for it and accomplish what He is asking of you. Therefore, I encourage you to “Keep on keeping on until that task is accomplished.”
