The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

Humility

In the same way, you who are younger, submit yourselves to your elders. All of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.
1 Peter 5:5, NIV

The first thing I would ask myself is what is humility? Jesus gives us a good example of Himself, the Lord of lords and the King of kings coming into the world as a little baby. He was born in a manger, lived as a carpenter and most of all He desired no recognition even when His ministry was filled with miracles signs and wonders. All He wanted was to reveal the Father to us. He lived to die!

What a great example He gave when He stooped down in front of His disciples and started washing their feet, when He went into the houses of tax collectors and sinners, and when He healed the lepers and touched them. He didn’t condemn a sinful adulteress. His life was filled with humility and He taught humility. He took the place of a servant, even though He was a king!

We live in a world where morality has drained away and disappeared from this generation. People are seeking for fame and recognition. The Church has lost one of the valuable treasures called humility and integrity!

Recently, I was watching clips of a political satire from my country and was shocked to see that the Church was being ridiculed because of mismanagement of funds and they were showing a preacher bragging about his very expensive car in front of a crowd in a gospel crusade! But it’s not just in one country. It’s a worldwide situation that requires us, as the Church, to search ourselves. Are we imitating Christ’s humility? Or are we conforming to the standards of the world? Are we seeking recognition, or are we serving Christ and seeking His Glory?

This scripture instructs us to be clothed in humility, why? Because God opposes the proud and gives strength to the humble.

‘Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross’ (Philippians 2:5).

Prayer: Lord, You know humility; You were humble. Please teach me to be humble before You all the days of my life. Forgive me if there is any sin of pride in me. Wash me clean and renew my mind to be the same as Yours, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
