He Understands It Better
by Lambert Bariho
Last year I had a problem with lights in our kitchen. I tried my best to fix it myself but in vain. I finally informed the landlady about the issue by text message, but she didn’t react at all. I was confused and wondered why she had ignored my message and complaint about the lights.
The next day I heard someone banging on our door in the early morning, which was something I’m not used to. I was bothered by it, but still opened the door, only to find out it was an electrician sent by the landlady to check on the problem of the lights in our kitchen.
I explained to him what had happened, what I’d tried to do and what I thought the problem was. I expected him to get into the ceiling to check on the wiring, but instead he pointed out that the issue wasn’t the wiring but the sockets. So I bought new ones, and the problem was fixed - just like that.
Before the electrician stepped out of the house I heard God speaking to my heart. My attitude in that situation was that which we sometimes adopt with God. How many times do we think He hasn’t heard our prayers? And how many times do we want to fix our own problem in our own understanding?
But God hears our prayers and answers them when we least expect Him to. He also understands the root of our problem, and can fix it better than we can with our efforts. Let’s allow Him to tell us what the real problem is, and allow Him to fix it His way and in His timing.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I’m sorry for the times I’ve thought You ignored my prayers. Please forgive me, and help me to trust You in every situation. I surrender everything to You and give You permission to answer me in Your time and in Your way. Amen.
