He Redeems My Life From the Pit
by Joan Rono
In the front of the meeting room in Ellel Grange are two banners. One says ‘He redeems my life from the pit’ and the other one says ‘I know the plans I have for you’. As I was looking at the two banners I asked myself ‘Am I in the pit or on the road to the destiny He has for me’.
Joseph was placed in a pit by his jealous brothers, just after they decided not to kill him. I wonder what went through his mind while he was in the pit. Maybe he felt his life was over and his dreams were snuffed out. His brothers could have killed him or abandoned him in the pit. They could easily have destroyed his dreams. But God wasn’t finished with Joseph. He had a bigger and greater plan for him than Joseph could see or imagine in that situation.
Did he only see darkness, fear, uncertainty and death in the pit? This could have been the reality in his spirit, because he was helpless at that moment. But there is someone who knew about the future. He not only sees the past, but He also knows the present and the future. God knew that it was not the end, but a beginning. He held Joseph’s future in His hands.
The pit does not mean the end. It could mean a new beginning. In fact Joseph’s future was far beyond what his dreams had revealed, and what he could have imagined. But perhaps the dreams he’d had helped him to see beyond the pit he was in.
As you look to what this new year might bring, remember that God’s promises to you are what you need, to see beyond the pit you’re in. The promises of God help you overcome any darkness, fear, and uncertainty surrounding you. Believe Him for the future, for 2013 and beyond. He knows the plans He has for you. He knows what your future holds. Give Him the chance.
Prayer: Lord, I trust Your plans for my life. I hold on to Your promises by faith, for the coming year and for every day of my life. You redeem my life from the pit and set me on the road towards my destiny, Amen.
