He Goes Before You

John testified concerning Him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.’ ”
John 1:15, NIV

God our Father is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His ever-presence is the most certain thing we have in our lives and in this world. This thought reminds me of a beautiful song by Chris Tomlin: ‘Whom Shall I Fear’. The lyrics in this song bring the same message as today’s scripture. Some of the words are as follows:
‘My strength is in Your Name, for You alone can save. You will deliver me. Yours is the victory. Whom shall I fear? Whom shall I fear? I know who goes before me. I know who stands behind. The God of angel armies is always by my side’.

When we’re battling with an issue in our lives, or even facing something new and daunting, we can know for certain that our God has been there before us and that He’s also ahead of us. Nothing we face is a surprise to Him. He’s in control and knows the way. This scripture meant so much to me when I read it recently, and a sense of security settled in my heart. I felt His covering over me, even in the area where I often feel most vulnerable. The Lord reminded me that He knows all and that I’m on a journey with Him.

Maybe you’re starting a new venture or facing some challenges, and uncertainty is gnawing at you. But you can rest assured that He’s with you, before you and behind you. You’re safe and He’ll be with you on this journey. Follow His voice and guidance. He’ll make your paths straight and show you the way, if you follow Him. Also, knowing that He’s with each of your loved ones in the same way helps you to entrust them into His care.

So, if your heart is feeling uncertain and anxious, let the truth about today’s scripture settle you and bring you to a safe place in the Lord. You’re surrounded by His presence and He’ll take care of you and those you love. Let Him fill you with this truth.

Prayer: Dear Father, knowing You’re with me, brings peace to my life. You’re my hope and my strong tower. When fear and anxiety knock at the door, I know for certain who goes before me and who goes behind me. You’ve walked this road and You’re my victory. Thank You, Jesus. Amen.
