God is not Self-Isolating!

by Andy Taylor

‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’
Psalm 46:1, NKJ

During these extraordinary times we are living in, people across the globe are being required to self-isolate. Whole cities are shutting down as people withdraw to their homes to avoid the spread of Covid-19 thereby minimising the impact on the most vulnerable of society. But during these times of isolation we can feel the most vulnerable. By definition we are removed from contact with others, we are unable to meet together and, of all times in our lives, we can feel very much on our own.

So, what great comfort we can take from today’s scripture. God is not just our refuge and strength, but He is very present with us during times of trouble. As governments require people to withdraw, God draws near. As people isolate, He is very present to bring comfort and encouragement. God is definitely not self-isolating – He is right with us!

Wherever you are today, whether you are on your own or with others, remember that God is with you and He will never leave you. Hold on to the truth of His word to you today that He is your very present help during times of trouble. This isn’t just a theoretical verse or one that only applies to a special selection of God’s people – it applies to us all as we love and follow Him.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank you for your care for us at all times. Thank you that you are near – that You are Emmanuel, God with us. Please Lord, make that especially true for us today and also for those who are struggling with loneliness at this time. Thank you Lord, Amen.
