Finding Myself
by David Cross
There is so much misleading ideology being promoted today regarding human identity. Children in schools are being given very confused teaching on how to discover who they are, very often just adding to any inner wounding that they're facing through the difficulties of life.
The Bible tells us that animals were created after their own kind, so they can only discover who they are by comparing themselves with other animals and copying their behaviour. However, we have been made in the image of God, and it’s only from Him, through the avenue of our human spirit, that we can find the certainty of who He made us to be.
Sadly, every one of us has been damaged by living in this fallen world, sometimes at a deep level within, but God is able to repair that damage in order that we can find in Him the person that He created. This is a precious aspect of the healing ministry of Jesus for all those who come to Him with open hearts.
Some years ago, my wife and I visited the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall. They had been buried under a century of neglect and damage but have now been brought into the light and beautifully restored over the last thirty years. The gradual discovery of the uniqueness and character of these gardens has been truly remarkable. I believe that God wants to do just the same with us, to restore and reveal the beauty of our true God-given identity, lost under the darkness and damage of our lives.
