The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

Seeds of the Kingdom

Fellow Workers with God

by Sue Dare

What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe - as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. … The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labour.
1 Corinthians 3:5-6, NIV

One morning, as I meditated on today’s scripture, I imagined myself with a watering can, pouring water on tiny plants. I hadn’t dug up the soil and sowed the seed. Someone else had gone before me and done all that back-breaking work, but God had brought me alongside to tend the plants and keep the soil moist, so they would continue to flourish.

Mostly I’m a ‘waterer’ for God, but sometimes He also asks me to sow precious seed, and then brings others alongside to water what’s been sown. Both watering and sowing are important, but the most vital factor is God, because He causes the seed to take root, and makes it grow.

We must never lose sight of this fact as we labour in His vineyard. Without God, there’d be no harvest, and our efforts would be futile. Our gracious and loving God invites us to be part of the process of reaping precious souls for His Kingdom. We’re God’s fellow workers, and that’s a great privilege! Another amazing factor in this equation is that we get paid wages for our efforts. Each of us will be rewarded according to his own labour (1 Corinthians 3:8).

As I travel to various nations, I see that God gives us many opportunities, both to sow seed, and to water what others have sown. God often prepares hearts in unexpected places, so we need to be open to the Holy Spirit leading. A brief encounter with an individual can have eternal ramifications, both for them, and for the Kingdom of God.

Our efforts may seem small or even insignificant in our own or others’ eyes, but it’s God’s perspective that really matters. He sees what we can’t see, and can take even the smallest and weakest witness and make it count for eternity. Precious seed, sown in tears, plus God, calls forth harvest! That’s a promise we can count on (Psalm 126:5-6).

God’s word doesn’t return void, so keep on sowing and watering with expectancy (Isaiah 55:10-11). What you sow today, or water tomorrow, will be harvested in due season.

Prayer: Father God, it doesn’t matter whether we sow or water, because both tasks will be rewarded. We humbly acknowledge though, that, without, You there’d be no harvest. Thank You that You’ve called us to be fellow workers with You. This is our privilege and not our burden, and we thank You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
