Double Portion
by Lynda Scott
Have you heard of the expression ‘double portion’? It is a phrase I have most often heard when people are receiving words of prophecy and it is always a word people want to hear prophesied. Actually I have had the ‘double portion’ personally prophesied over me
numerous times over the past twenty years. I have found it is one thing to have it prophesied and quite another thing to actually receive a double portion blessing from God.
Job, in the Old Testament, was a man who received a double portion. What made Job eligible for a double portion? Think about it. Job lost all his ten children, his income, his health and the friends that did stick by him were not much support. Even his wife told him he should curse God and die (Job 2:9). But how did Job respond to unimaginable loss, sickness and suffering? Job trusted God! So in the fullness of God’s timing Job received a double portion blessing from the Lord. He was blessed with ten more children (son for son and daughter for daughter), double the livestock (meaning double the income) and a long life (meaning the blessing of health).
I myself have had a similar road to walk over a period of years. I lost my health after falling from a cliff and nearly dying, I had no income but a disability pension. I was miraculously healed by Jesus at an Ellel Ministries conference, with the Lord restoring my losses. But in later years I went on to lose three of my children. What did I do? Like Job, I trusted God! I then had the privilege of receiving a double portion blessing, receiving from the Lord daughter for daughter and son for son as Job did! In every area where I have suffered, the Lord has restored double and more.
Double portions are amazing, but often attached to extraordinary suffering. So they are not necessarily for everyone. If you are prepared to trust the Lord no matter what, you may well find that He has a double portion waiting for you. Our reward is with Him. Even though I have suffered greatly, never have I regretted trusting the Lord. He was there with me every step of the way. Sometimes the road we have to walk is filled with suffering. So will you commit afresh today to trusting Jesus through whatever you are facing?
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for the people in the Bible such as Job, who trusted You, even though they went through extreme circumstances and difficulties. Today I commit afresh to trusting You with all that I am going through, without complaining. May I receive the fullness of Your reward for me, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
