The whole course is exceptional very relevant to me. I have gone away with a lot to think about. I have learnt that I don't have just to cope and be so independent. God is good & loves me, even me!.... Read More...

A Windy Day

by Alison Scarborough

“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
John 3:8, NIV

Over the last few days the sun has been shining brightly and it has been windy, very windy. It’s been great drying weather for the washing I have been doing, or so you might think. It has actually felt more like a battle that has to be won. The locals, where I am staying at the moment, describe this kind of wind as ‘a lazy wind which doesn’t bother to go round you. It just cuts straight through you!’ What they mean is that it is an East to North-Easterly wind and it comes in cold off the sea with a real bite to it.

I have to tell you that hanging out the washing was a fun challenge. Just how many pegs do I need to keep a sheet on the line, given that they are flying parallel to the ground? I love the weather forecast and looking at the charts the folk on the television show us but, even with all that information, the truth is, although we can hear the sound of the wind, feel the strength of the wind, and be blessed by dry laundry, Jesus says we still cannot really tell where it comes from or where it is going.

Jesus goes on to compare the work of Holy Spirit to the way the wind works in the world, causing effects and without being seen or controlled by us. When we are born again it is a work of the Spirit. The same is true as we continue our walk as disciples. We will know the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives because we will see changes in our lives as we let the Spirit do His work. Like the wind, we can feel it and see its effects.

How precious for us to know that the Holy Spirit, whom Jesus sent, is there for us, sometimes with a comforting gentle breeze and sometimes with a stronger gust of revelation when we need a word of encouragement or even correction.

Prayer: Father God, thank You for your Son Jesus and thank you that Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to draw us to relationship with Him. Help me to recognise the wind of the Spirit today. Help me to choose His prompting to seek Jesus. Father God, You know my biggest need today. Help me to receive what Holy Spirit wants me to have from Your heart. Amen.
