You Will Revive Me

by Pam Smith

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me...The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; do not forsake the works of your Hands.
Psalm 138:7-8, NKJV

A little daffodil bud had fallen out of the bunch that I’d bought for a friend. It lay forgotten, half dead and bent in the bottom of my shopping bag. The next day I discovered it. I reached down and picked it up and placed it in a rose vase of water. It flopped over and looked very sorry for itself. However, a few hours later it had absorbed the water and stood tall and straight in full, perfect bloom.

That sometimes happens to us, yet the Lord sees us in the place where we are. We may think we’re forgotten and broken, or bent with trouble. Yet we’ve sung His praises with all our hearts. We’ve had many promises fulfilled. We’ve experienced His mighty strength in us. We’ve seen His answers when we’ve called. We’ve seen His love lift us up when we’ve humbled ourselves. We know He sees us.

This Psalm goes on to say ‘The Lord will perfect that which concerns me’. I like that. His mercy goes on forever. I believe that. He will never forsake me, the work of His hands. ‘You will revive me’. Even if I’m all alone, with no fellowship, no scripture, only what’s hidden in my heart, the Lord’s given the Holy Spirit to revive and make me stand tall and straight, and become that perfect bloom that He intended me to be. He’s going to do it this time too.

Revive our drooping faith,
Our doubts and fears remove,
And kindle in our breasts the flame Of never-dying love.

J. Hart.

Prayer: Lord, we praise You for Your never ending faithfulness. We can see a thousand times, Your hand has been upon our lives. We trust You now, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
