Walls Have Ears

My Aunt Elsie, who was a lovely christian lady, had a number of pithy sayings, one of which was: “Walls have ears”.
As a young child I was completely mystified as to what she meant and spent many an hour (or so it seems to me on looking back) scanning the walls for some ears! I was delighted therefore on reading Joshua chapter 24 this morning to realise just what she meant: That inanimate objects can "listen" in to our conversations and note our behaviour, and if they could speak would have quite a powerful tale to tell.
I, for one, am quite pleased that walls don’t have physical mouths or ears, and that they can’t report what they observe, for I confess that I’m not always on my best behaviour. However, on reflection, I’m reminded that there’s a greater witness to our life and conversations, even Jesus Himself, for He said that He would never leave us nor forsake us. This to me is both a warning as well as a comfort.
Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, we thank You for those special people who, in the past, have spoken good things into our lives. We ask You to forgive us for the many times that we’ve behaved as though no one could see us. We thank You for Your forgiveness as we come to You and say sorry. Please continually remind us that You’re always present. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
