Waiting

I recently went for a walk with a couple of friends in a lovely place called Lossiemouth. We decided on a nice coastal walk along the cliffs to the Lossiemouth lighthouse, but by time I got to the lighthouse I was very tired. I was still recovering from illness, and I knew that I wouldn’t manage the walk back to the car.

So, my two friends said, “Go and sit by the lighthouse and we will go get the car and pick you up”. Away I went to get a seat, while they went for the car. But as I was waiting, it started to rain, and, as it was January in Scotland, it was quite cold also.

I was aware it was going to take quite some time for them to return with the car and I was already a bit cold. I wondered what I could do to stay warm. I decided to walk around the building to keep myself warm and talk to the Lord to help pass the time.

As I was talking to the Lord, He reminded me of a time when I had to wait before starting something new. I’m not very patient. I’m the type of person who wants things instantly.

During this time of waiting, I felt the Lord say, “How are you going to use this time while you are waiting?” I could sit and be lazy, or I could use the time to study the word, talk to Him, listen, seek Him, and allow Him to prepare me for the next season in my life.

There are times when we have to wait, but my question to you is this. How are you going to use your waiting time? Are you going to sit and get cold, or are you going to use the time with the Lord? Maybe you do need to rest, just sitting in His presence and allowing Him to refresh you. Waiting is good for us. It’s a time to trust that everything is in the Lord’s hands, and that, at the right time, His plans for us will come into fruition.

I also want to mention another kind of waiting. Some people may be waiting for something to happen before they give their life to the Lord. If that is you, I want to encourage you not to wait any more. Take that step now. The Lord is waiting with His arms open wide, ready to receive you.
