Use what you have
by Jennie Berry
I was reminded of this verse the other day when I was praying with our ministry team and God brought back to mind something that had happened earlier in the day.
I had to check the first aid materials at Glyndley Manor and this involved borrowing a key. As I returned the key I realised that being only 5’ 2” high (157cm) I couldn’t reach the place where it was kept. I struggled to put it back on its hook, but couldn’t do it. Then a colleague came by and offered to do it for me. Being taller than me, they had no difficulty at all.
God then reminded me of a word about keys that God had previously given me. He put together, in my mind, our Bible verse for today, my struggle to get the key back on the hook and the word I had been given, which said that He would willingly do His bit if I did my bit using what I had to offer. I had a key and He could put it where it was needed.
It’s so easy to feel that we can’t do anything ourselves when we face a difficult situation, and like Peter and John confess that we don’t have the money or means to fix it. But God says ‘use what you have’ and let your faith rise up like Peter and John. God will then do what only He can do. He takes our willingness and supplements it with His help. Together we can walk out His plans for our lives.
Prayer: Dear God, I am sorry for the times when I try to do things in my own strength and give up when things seem too hard. Thank You that You are able to help us at all times. Please use me and what little I have for your glory. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
