Times and Seasons

He changes times and seasons.
Daniel 2:21, NIV

‘God made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to set’ (Psalm 104:19). In our lives, God will take us through different times and seasons. They are meant to mould us, shape us, and increase our faith in Him, and our relationship with Him, as we learn to trust Him through them all.

There’s a time for tears, and a time for God to wipe away those tears. ‘The Sovereign LORD will wipe away the tears from all faces’ (Isaiah 25:8). ‘Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning’ (Psalm 30:5).

There’s a time for sowing in tears, and a time for reaping with joyful shouting (Psalm 126:5).

There’s a time for worries, cares and burdens, “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things” (Luke 10:41), and a time for God to take them away from you, if you cast them upon Him. ‘Cast your cares on the LORD’ (Psalm 55:22).

There’s a time to rejoice in your youth, and a time to see your white hair as a crown, ‘Grey hair is a crown of glory’ (Proverbs 16:31). There’s a time to go round the walls of ‘Jericho’, and a time for the walls to collapse. There’s a time of losing things, like Job, and a time for the restoration of what the locusts have eaten, (in Job’s case, a double portion).

There’s a time to be promised a son, as Abraham was, and a time to ‘bear’ that son. There’s a time to wait on God’s promises, and a time to receive those promises. There’s a time to be in a basket, as Moses was, and a time to be a prince and a deliverer. There’s a time to be at the gate, like Mordecai, and a time to be in the palace, a time to be a shepherd, and a time to be a king.

There’s a time to escape from your enemies, and a time for God to lay a table before you in the presence of your enemies. There’s a time to take care of others’ wealth faithfully, like Jacob with Laban’s, and a time for God to bless you with your own wealth (Genesis 30:25-43).

There’s a time for the storm, and a time for Jesus to calm the storms of life.
Whatever times and seasons you’re in, know that your God is bigger than it all. He’s outside times and seasons. He’ll never let us walk alone. Psalm 31:15 says that our times are in His hand. That’s why He’s able to change times and seasons, and we need to make the most of every opportunity (Colossians 4:5). Let’s embrace any season that He brings to us, because His plans for us are for good, and not for evil.

Prayer: Lord, I understand that for everything there’s a season, a time for every activity under heaven. Help me to trust in You, the God who holds everything together, and let go of my control. God, I trust You with my life, for You’re a faithful God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
